PRESS RELEASE: Eid al-Fitr Prayer Announcement 2023
Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre (GLMCC) would like to announce that it will be holding its annual Eid Al Fitr celebration in Small Heath Park this month, God willing.
Eid is expected to fall on either Friday 21st April or Saturday 22nd April, based on the sighting of the new crescent moon. We will make a formal announcement on our social media of the exact date on the afternoon of Thursday 20th April, when it will be known if the moon has been sighted or not.
If the moon is sighted on Thursday, Eid will be on Friday. If it is not sighted, the Muslim community will fast for one more day and Eid will be celebrated on Saturday.
There will be a wet weather contingency for indoor prayers at Green Lane Masjid if the weather does not permit prayers to be held outside. There will be four separate congregational prayers for the indoor contingency, due to the large number of people expected. Indoor prayers will run from 7:00am through to 10:00am. Further details will be provided closer to the time.
Eid at Small Heath Park will be held with an expected turnout of thousands. People are expected to arrive from 8:00am with the prayer performed promptly at 9:30am.
There will be activities at Small Heath Park, including the regular Robert Wilkinson Fun-Fair, for families to enjoy after prayers have concluded.
Mohammed Saeed, Chair of Trustees at Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre said,
“Eid Al Fitr is one of the two major annual celebrations for the Muslim community, where we come together to celebrate the end of Ramadan, after a whole month of fasting. Eid is a time for the community to worship together, be thankful and spend time with family.”
- Eid Gifts Distribution to the Needy
As part of the Eid celebrations, the Green Lane Masjid team will also be carrying out an Eid food gift distribution on Wednesday 19th April. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Give gifts to one another, you will love each other”
Food packs will be distributed to those in the community facing a financial hardship (zakat applicants) so that they can also enjoy the day.
We hope and pray that everyone has a wonderful and enjoyable Eid.
Eid Mubarak!
