1. Belief in God
The profession of faith, is the first pillar of Islam. Muslims bear witness to the oneness of God by reciting the creed,
“There is no true God worthy of worship but God and Muhammad is the last and final Messenger of God.”
This simple yet profound statement expresses a Muslim’s complete acceptance of and total commitment to Islam.
2. Belief in Angels
We believe that angels exist, believe in the names we are informed of and of their descriptions in authentic reports. They are created by God and have no share in divinity. Their purpose is to serve God and to carry out His commands in the universe. We also believe in the tasks that God has assigned them. Some of these tasks are bringing revelation to the messengers, bringing down the rain, writing down our deeds and taking our souls when we die.
3. Belief in Books
We believe that God sent revelations and communicated with His chosen messengers. We believe in the names of the original scriptures and believe in the truth contained therein which is confirmed by the Quran.
4. Belief in Messengers
We believe that God sent human Messengers to remind people to worship God alone on His terms and to obey His commandments and messengers. They promised reward for those who comply and do good and warned of a punishment for those who do evil. We believe that God sent them, in the names that were explicitly mentioned in the Quran, and believe in the truth they all brought. We must apply the teachings of the one sent to us which is the very last of them, Muhammad. His life and rulings serve as an example for all of mankind until the Last Day.
5. Belief in Last Day
We believe that we will be brought back to life after death to be Judged by God. Paradise and Hell are the eternal destination of people based on how they lived their lives and the choices they made. Everyone’s afterlife begins at the moment of death so we believe in all the details related to the afterlife including as is recorded in the authentic reports.
6. Belief in Divine Decree
We believe that God knows everything that is to come and He recorded everything in a preserved tablet before the creation came into existence. Nothing takes place except through the will of God
and if anything happens, God has created it and made it happen. He has planned for every event. He knows the outcome of every circumstance. This is why we trust in His wisdom and knowledge.
