Green Lane Mosque Student Fatally Stabbed

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Abdullah Muhammad who was stabbed near Green Lane Mosque at Sara Park in Small Heath on Wednesday night, February 20th. Abdullah Muhammad was a student at Green Lane Mosque & Community Centre (GLMCC) where he had registered in January 2019 with his younger brother and father to attend evening classes in Green Lane’s educational institute. He had only recently started attending classes for the new term where he was studying the memorisation of the Holy Qur’an (Hifz).
GLMCC has been truly saddened by the news and the needless loss of yet another young life on the streets of Birmingham. Members from the Mosque and Community Centre including the Head of Education visited the family to pay their condolences on Saturday morning. The teachers commented on Abdullah being a very well-mannered young man with ambition and potential. This is an immense loss for the family and we pray that Allah (God) grants them patience.
GLMCC works closely with West Midlands Police, local councillors and other organisations with whom we have been collaborating in light of the recent spate of violence. GLMCC has deployed joint Street Watch patrols along with West Midlands Police over the past few days and also has a Knife Bin on Little Green Lane where people can surrender their weapons anonymously and safely 24/7. Since the launch of the Knife Bank numerous knives have been taken off the streets of Birmingham. In 2017 two guns along with ammunition were emptied from our Knife Bank. In recent months GLMCC has been running a billboard campaign around knives and other weapons.
