About the Speaker
Shaykh Dr. Zine El Abidine Balafrej is a Moroccan scholar and professor of Islamic studies who began his education at a young age in Rabat, memorising the Qur’an and studying under various local scholars before specialising in Tajwīd and Qur’anic sciences.
He later travelled to Medina, where he pursued his secondary education and studied a wide range of Islamic disciplines including Hadith, Fiqh, ‘Aqīdah, Tafsīr, and Arabic language under prominent scholars such as Shaykh Nasir al-Din al-Albani and Shaykh Hammad al-Ansari, with whom he maintained close scholarly companionship.
He earned his PhD in 1990 and went on to serve as a professor at Hassan II University, as well as teaching at Umm al-Qura University and the Islamic University of Medina.
Throughout his career, he has contributed to academic research, supervised postgraduate studies, participated in international conferences, and authored and edited several works in Hadith and Islamic scholarship, while also serving as a khatīb and educator in Casablanca and advising Islamic institutions both locally and in the West.
