THE MAJOR SINS LECTURE SERIES
Do you know what the major sins are in Islam? Can they be forgiven by the Almighty, if we repent? How can you avoid them?
Shaykh Mustafa Abu Rayyan tells you more about these in his new lecture series on Major Sins below.
Shirk: The worst major sin
The prophet (ﷺ) was asked numerous times about the major sins, the one constant was that shirk is the worst sin and the greatest injustice.
Anas narrated:
The Prophet (ﷺ) was asked about the great sins He said, “They are:
1. To join others in worship with Allah
2. To be undutiful to one’s parents.
3. To kill a person (which Allah has forbidden to kill) (i.e. to commit the crime of murdering).
4. And to give a false witness.”
Murder: A Major Sin
Whoever takes an innocent life it is as if he killed all of mankind. After telling us the story of the two sons of prophet Adam (Qabil & Habil) and the murder that took place Allah said:
Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land – it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. [5:32]
Killing is a major sin in Islam with severe consequences.
Watch Shaykh Mustafa talk about this Major Sin.
Neglecting the Prayer : A Major Sin
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “The difference between us and them is salaah. Whoever neglects it is a kaafir.”
Listen to Shaykh Mustafa talk about this Major Sin.
Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is the One Who forgives and accepts repentance, Most Merciful” [49:12]
It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Do you know what gheebah (backbiting) is?” They said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said, “Saying something about your brother that he dislikes.” It was said, “What if what I say about my brother is true?” He said, “If what you say is true then you have backbitten about him, and if it is not true, then you have slandered him.”
[Muslim]
“Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.”
(Al-Tirmidhi)
With the grace of Allah SWT, we have provided much-needed services to the community, educating, serving the homeless, humanitarian relief, counselling services, sisters support, youth programmes. As a result of all this work we were voted and awarded Mosque of the Year 2020 and Britains Best Run Mosque 2019.
With the pandemic this year and the closures of the Masjid due to COVID-19 situation, our main source of income has been removed from us. After spending decades building up the Masjid, providing services for the community and guiding our youth we cannot bear to see our Masjid in a dire financial situation.
Now more than ever, we need your duas and your financial support. We humbly ask you to come together as an ummah and donate generously to support the Masjid so that we can ensure that we are still standing strong and in a position to continue making a positive impact as we have been doing.
