Assalāmu ʿAlaykum Wa Rahmatullāhi Wa Barakātuh,

The sacred month of Dhul Qaʿdah, it’s a month of peace, reflection, and preparation especially as we approach the days of Ḥajj and Dhul Ḥijjah, the most beloved days to Allah. We ask Allah to keep us firm upon His path and accept all our efforts for His sake.

At Green Lane Masjid, our mission continues. Across every department from Education and Dawah to Welfare, Youth, Operations, and IslamWise, our teams are working hard to serve the community, spread knowledge, and create long lasting impact.

In this newsletter, we’re pleased to share what’s been happening throughout the month of April. It’s a glimpse into the dedication, teamwork, and passion that drives our efforts at every level.

We hope these updates not only inform, but also inspire you to stay connected and involved with Green Lane Masjid.

May Allah bless our community and keep our hearts united in service to His deen.

6 Shahadas In April

Alhamdullilah, 6 of our brothers and sisters have embraced Islam this April. Each Shahadah marks the start of a beautiful journey; what truly counts is the support that follows. At Islamwise, we provide: 1-to-1 mentoring and classes, a welcoming community and quran’s and dawah material.

”And who is better in speech than one who calls to Allah, and does righteousness”

– Surah Fussilat (41:33)

Friday Kitchen

We held our Friday kitchen throughout April. Every Friday after Jummuʿah, Green Lane Masjid offers a free hot meal open to all members of the community as part of our Friday Kitchen initiative. This weekly service is open to everyone and takes place immediately after the Jummuʿah prayer. Whether you’re staying for a while or just passing through, we encourage you to  join us and enjoy a warm meal in a welcoming environment. It’s a simple way to reconnect with the community and end your Jummuah on a positive note.

School Visits

We continued this month with regular school visits, hosting classes of different year groups. We had two school visits in April with one coming all the way from Worcester. These visits highlight the core beliefs and practices of Muslims and provide opportunities for schools to visit the masjid in order to maximise learning outcomes for students, as well as making it enjoyable and a memorable experience.

Al-Binaa Season 4

Continuation of Al-binaa season 4 classes are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after Maghrib, both onsite and online, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for all attendees.  We are proud to see Al-Binaa growing year on year both in content and commitment. May Allah accept the efforts of all the students and teachers, and allow this programme to be a source of lasting benefit for the Ummah. We continue to strive and educate our community about fiqh, Aqeedah and the seerah.

Cleaner Streets Campaign

In light of the recent bin strike and its impact on our local neighbourhood, Green Lane Masjid launched the Cleaner Streets Campaign, a week-long initiative designed to support the community and promote the Islamic principle of cleanliness.   At the heart of the campaign was a mobile waste disposal centre set up at the masjid, giving residents a safe and convenient way to responsibly dispose of their rubbish during a time of disruption.

To reinforce the message, we delivered a Friday khutbah highlighting the importance of cleanliness in Islam and our shared responsibility to care for our environment. Alongside this, a targeted social media campaign raised awareness across our online platforms, reaching a wide audience and sparking positive feedback from both our local community and beyond.

The campaign gained significant traction, even attracting local media coverage and unexpectedly, coverage from a news outlet in New Zealand, which helped shine a global light on our local efforts. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many in the community calling for similar initiatives in the future. This campaign was a powerful reminder that meaningful change starts with community-led action rooted in our values.

Youth Activities

Over the Easter holidays, our Youth Department organised a series of exciting and purposeful trips for the young brothers, including hiking, swimming, paintballing, Alton Towers, and a football tournament

These outings provided valuable time away from everyday distractions, offering the youth a chance to bond in positive Islamic environments under the guidance of mentors who embody the values we aim to instil.

The impact was clear: increased engagement with the masjid, improved manners and confidence, stronger brotherhood built on good character, and a reduced likelihood of falling into harmful or haram behaviours. These initiatives continue to reinforce identity, nurture discipline, and build the next generation of committed, grounded Muslims.

Cancer Bus Tour

Our Cancer Support Service played a key role in supporting the Birmingham & Solihull Cancer Bus Tour throughout April. The tour reached hundreds across Birmingham—including City Centre, Newtown, Aston, and Balsall Heath—and culminated in a final stop at Green Lane Masjid. Dozens from our congregation accessed free health checks and expert advice onboard. The tour will return in June, in shaa Allah.

Liver Screening Van

On Wednesday, 30th April, we hosted the NHS UHB Liver Van at Morrison’s Car Park. Over 50 free Liver FibroScans were carried out, with queues forming well before opening. Due to high demand, further screenings and specialist-led workshops are already being planned.

Domestic Abuse Support

Our Domestic Abuse Team supported over 20 service users in April, including those emerging from crisis situations. The team also received positive feedback from Birmingham Children’s Partnership Trust for their effective support of a mutual client.

Cancer Support Service Party

We hosted a special gathering for service users and Cancer Champions at the masjid, with 50+ attendees enjoying a family-friendly day filled with food, henna, games, and a bouncy castle for the children.

Dhul Hijjah Giving

Allah سبحانه وتعالى chose the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah.

The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are the most blessed days of the year and present the perfect opportunity to earn extra rewards for simple good deeds, and one of the most beloved actions to Allah is helping those in need. Subhan’Allah! ✨

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than those ten days.” – (Sahih Muslim)

Automate your Dhul Hijjah giving with Green Lane Masjid and ensure you don’t miss a single opportunity for reward.

Jummah Giving

Reaping the rewards of giving Sadaqah on the day of Jummah carries many virtues compared to any other day in the week.
