GLMCC Partners with Birmingham 2022 Festival ‘Key to the City’

Birmingham 2022 Festival presents ‘Key to the City’, a public art project by internationally – acclaimed artist Paul Ramirez Jonas, produced by Fierce. GLMCC has partnered with this project as a site for keyholders to visit.

Traditionally, ‘Key to the City’ has been a ceremonial honour, including a physical key, given to a hero or dignitary, symbolising they have freedom to the city. In this project, the Key to the City belongs to everyone, not just the chosen few and it may be awarded for any reason.

Keyholders will be able to explore private places from private gardens, underground tunnels, a locked museum drawer, and more; but also intriguing public places they may never have known about before.

GLMCC is one of the selected sites that will give special access to live prayers with English translation, an inside view of the Victorian Society Conservation award-winning site, and staff available Mon – Fri to answer any questions.

The project, sponsored by Yale, will allow the public to nominate others for the Key and visit several sites across the West Midlands.
