Green Lane Mosque and Community Centre (GLMCC) recently concluded its initiatives for Islamophobia Awareness Month, which took place in November 2023. According to data from the Home Office in early 2023, revealing that 40% of all religious hate crimes were perpetrated against Muslims, GLMCC prioritised education during this critical month.

The mosque’s school visits program aims to showcase the beauty of Islam in an educational and inclusive manner, countering the negative narratives surrounding the Muslim community.

In the last two years, over 40 schools across the UK have participated in GLMCC’s school visits program. Students nationwide were given a transparent view of Islam and its teachings in an open, friendly, and educational environment.

GLMCC, which provides over 70 unique activities and services to address the community’s holistic needs, continued its commitment to multifaceted community support. From daily prayers and weekly youth clubs to coffee mornings, a food bank, and various sports programs such as football, fencing, and boxing, GLMCC has been an integral part of the community.

Essential services, including immigration assistance, legal surgeries, and counseling, underscore GLMCC’s commitment to supporting the community in various ways. The school visits remained an essential opportunity for young people to learn about Islam, the function of mosques, and core Islamic beliefs while being encouraged to ask questions.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, GLMCC adapted its in-person school visits by offering virtual school visits, ensuring that educational outreach continued seamlessly.
