Time Commitment: This role is flexible and based on both your availability and the needs of the people we support.

BACKGROUND TO GLMCC:

Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre is a leading UK mosque situated in the heart of Birmingham serving the community since 1979. Operating from its award-winning grade II listed Victorian building, GLMCC fulfils its mission of inspiring, educating and serving through its educational college, outreach work, welfare services, youth work, international humanitarian wing, as well as its fully functional mosque which is attended by thousands every week.

1. Purpose of role:

Our Events & Activities Volunteers play a key role in supporting the delivery of cancer awareness, wellbeing, and community engagement initiatives. By volunteering with Green Lane Masjid’s Cancer Support Service, you will help create welcoming, informative, and culturally sensitive spaces that bring the community together and promote health awareness.

2. Main responsibilities:

Emotional Support

• Assist in the planning and delivery of cancer awareness events, workshops, and community activities such as Wellness Walks and Bowling.
• Help set up and pack down event spaces (e.g., arranging tables, signage, and materials).
• Support registration desks, sign-ins, and feedback collection.
• Welcome attendees and help create a friendly, inclusive, and respectful environment.
• Provide general support to ensure events run smoothly.
• Help set up and manage information stalls within the Masjid or at external venues.
• Help ensure sessions are organised, inclusive, and culturally appropriate

Support & Training

Volunteers will receive:
• Access to Macmillan and British Islamic Medical Association training.
• Ongoing support from Volunteer Coordinator.
• Personal development plans.
• Regular 1-1 wellbeing check-ins.
• Receive certificates and appreciation in recognition of your dedication.
• Confirmation letter of volunteering can be provided on request after six months.
