When the call to the Friday prayer calls, you rush towards the remembrance of Allah ﷻ and leave behind everything you were busy with prior to the Jummah prayer.
“O you who believe, when the call for Salāh (prayer) is proclaimed on Friday, hasten for the remembrance of Allah, and leave off business. That is much better for you, if you but know.” (Quran 62:9)
The Prophet ﷺ advised that when people become preoccupied by making money and amassing as much wealth as possible, we need to memorise the following supplication:
O Allah verily I ask of You for strength of perseverance of obedience on the Deen, and determination in practicing of the Deen and goodness. And I ask of You for that which obligates Your mercy and resolutions for Your forgiveness. And I ask of You for the capability to be thankful for Your blessings and to worship you in a correct and good way. And I ask of You for a heart which is purified in belief and free from desires and a truthful tongue. And ask of You for the best of what You know, and I seek refuge with You from the evil of what You know, and I seek forgiveness for that which You know. Indeed, you are the One who knows the unseen. (Hadith. Silsilah Saheehah 3228.)
Allah ﷻ reminds us in the Quran
“Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one’s] hope.” (Quran 18:46)
Allah ﷻ has also said in the Quran:
“What is with you shall perish and what is with Allah shall last. And certainly, We shall bless those who observed patience, with their reward for the best of what they used to do.” (Quran 16:96)
More than ever, we definitely need steadfastness upon the religion. Nowadays we live in very challenging times for our youth and ourselves. Everybody is going to be challenged when it comes to your Aqidah and belief. You will be shaken, and no one is safe! Even the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to ask Allah to keep him steadfast upon the religion when he was in sujood.
No one should feel comfortable enough to say that they were born as a Muslim, and that they will remain one until they die. Any one of us can lose his or her religion; may Allah ﷻ protect us. This is why it is very important that we draw closer to Allah ﷻ and make sincere dua that we hold onto our prayer. The most precious thing that we have is the religion and our Iman- nothing else. If you lost all your wealth, your children, and everything that you have; but you still have your Iman you are safe. Whereas, if you have everything and you lose your Iman you are finished.
We have to be determined and have resolve to change. You have the choice to make shaiytaan happy and make Allah ﷻ upset, or you have the choice to make Allah ﷻ happy and upset shaiytaan, depending on the decisions that you make. This is a time for tawbah and for change because the further away you stray from Allah ﷻ the more likely you are to leave your religion.
