GLMCC extends its deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their loved ones, the congregation, and all those affected by this horrific act of violence.

The hate crime was not only an attack on the right of communities to gather in peace and safety, but also an attack on innocent children who were studying at the Islamic centre at the time of the shooting. This is unacceptable.

It is vital this attack is treated with the same respect and urgency as any other faith community, prioritising the safety of the Muslim community as hate crimes continue to increase.

Leaders, law enforcement and media must tackle all forms of violence targeting faith communities by demonstrating compassion and rejecting division.

We stand with all victims of racial and religious hate.
