PRESS RELEASE: Eid al-Adha 2022 Prayer Announcement
Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre (GLMCC) will be holding Eid celebrations in Small Heath Park for Eid al-Adha, this July 2022. The event in Small Heath Park was held for the previous Eid in May, a few months ago, with more than 10,000 people in attendance.
Eid al-Adha will fall on Saturday 9th July, based on the sighting of the new crescent moon. There will be wet weather contingency for prayers indoor at Green Lane Masjid, if the weather does not permit prayers to be held outside.
Eid al-Adha will also be held with an expected turnout of more than 10,000 people. People are expected to arrive from 8:00am with the prayer to begin at 9:30am. There will be activities at Small Heath Park, including the regular Robert Wilkinson funfair at the park, after the prayer.
Saleem Ahmed, project manager for Eid in the park said,
“Eid is about spending quality time with family, friends, and the community at large, as a form of worship and a show of unity. We at GLM, look forward to host yet another Eid in the park for all to enjoy!”
There are a number of other activities that we will be arranging for this Eid period, including:
- Day of Arafah Iftar: The day of Arafah (9th of Dhul Hijjah – Friday 8th July) is the day before Eid and a day that the Muslim community is encouraged to fast. We will be arranging an onsite Iftar meal for anyone fasting on the day and hope to feed up to 400 people, God willing.
- Overseas Qurbani: This year Task Force GLM is organising ethical Qurbani in various countries across the world, and is dealing with local suppliers within these international countries, to help local economies flourish in poverty-stricken regions. The meat from the Qurbani will go to the poor who can’t afford the luxury of meat in their already sparse diet. If you wish to order your international Qurbani, please visit the Task Force GLM website.
- Revert Eid Dinner: Though Eid is a time of great joy, it can be a lonely time for new Muslims who may not have any Muslim family to enjoy the festivities with. Islamwise, our revert support wing will be preparing Eid gift packs and an exclusive dinner just for revert Muslims, allowing them to enjoy the day and partake in the festivities with their community. Contact Islamwise for more information.
- Eid Gifts to children in hospital: “Give gifts to one another, you will love each other”, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is reported to have said. A few days after Eid, in partnership with Aman Solicitors, the GLM team will be visiting sick children in hospital to hand out gifts. This is so that those children who can’t enjoy Eid as other children can, will still feel loved and not forgotten.
We hope and pray that everyone has a wonderful and enjoyable Eid. Eid Mubarak!
